The PlayStation Network Sign-In failed error can be encountered while logging into the PSN account and may prevent you from doing so. Facing this error is frustrating and users can often encounter it while trying to log in to their PSN account.
But what is the cause of this error, and is there any way that I can resolve it? Let’s go through all the steps you can follow to fix the PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed error.
What Causes PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed Issue?
Before going ahead with the fixes, it is crucial to know the root cause of the error. Once you know what causes the error, you can easily solve it. You can face this error due to the following reasons-
- You can encounter this issue if the PSN servers are facing downtime.
- Another common reason causing this issue is incorrect login credentials.
- An unstable internet may prevent you from logging into your PSN account and cause a PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed error.
- Temporary glitches can also cause this issue.
- Another common reason behind this error can be outdated system software.
- Corrupted data is another major cause of PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed error.
- You can also face this issue if PlayStation has banned your IP.
- Sony can ban/suspend your PSN account, and if that happens, you won’t be able to sign into your PSN account and keep on getting the PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed error.
Fix PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed Issue
Now that you are well-versed in what causes this issue, you can continue with the troubleshooting steps to fix it-
1. Restart your PlayStation (PS5/PS4)
Try restarting your PlayStation to clear it of any glitches/bugs. Here’s how to do it-
- On your controller, press the PS BUTTON.
- Navigate to the Power icon and select it.
- Now, select Restart PS to restart your PlayStation.
2. Check PSN Server
PSN Server downtime is often the cause of a PlayStation Network Sign-In Failed error. You must check the PSN Server Status for downtime. There should be a green dot beside all the services listed here, which means that all the services are up and there’s no server downtime.
Server downtime cannot be fixed at the users’ end, so you can do nothing if there are ongoing issues with the PSN server. Wait until the server downtime is resolved, and then continue signing in to your PSN account to your PlayStation.
3. Use Correct Credentials
Ensure you use the correct credentials to log in to your PSN account. If you have forgotten your account credentials, follow this link to reset them. Once done, try signing into your account again.
4. Re-Login to Your Local Gamer Profile
The next thing you can try doing is logging out of your local gamer profile and then logging into it again. The steps mentioned below should help you do that-
- From the home screen of PlayStation, select your profile icon.
- Now, from the menu, select Log Out.
- After you are logged out successfully, log in back to your account.
5. Check Your Account for Suspension
Sony can suspend your PSN account if it violates the Terms of Service and Community Code of Conduct or account doubt. The suspension may be temporary or permanent, depending on why your account was suspended.
You will get an email if your account is suspended with the reason for suspension. Temporary suspension lifts off on its own after the given time, and for account debt suspension, you will have to pay the balance to get your account back.

6. Delete and Re-Add Network
The issue can often be encountered if there’s some issue with the network. If that is the case, you can delete and re-add the network. Before proceeding with this, restart your router and see if that fixes the issue. If it does not, then here’s what to do-
- From the home screen of your PlayStation, select Settings.
- Select Network in the Settings menu.
- Select Settings and then select Set Up Internet Connection.
- From the list of networks, select your network and then select Forget.
- After this, please select the network you deleted and enter your password to connect to it again.
7. Connect PlayStation and Router through an Ethernet Cable
If deleting and re-adding the network didn’t solve the issue, connect your PlayStation to the router through the ethernet cable. Often, there can be issues with the wireless network connectivity, which can result in a PSN Network Sign-In Failed error. If this doesn’t solve the error, try connecting your PlayStation to another network.
8. Change the DNS of Your Network
The default DNS assigned to you by the ISP can also be the root cause of this error. You can change the default DNS of your network on the PlayStation. We will be switching to Google’s DNS for this guide, but you can also use some other DNS.
- Open the Settings of your PlayStation.
- Select Network and then select Settings within Network.
- Now, select Set Up Internet Connection.
- From the Registered Networks list, select the network you are connected to and then select Advanced Settings.
- Now set DNS Settings to Manual.
- Set Primary DNS to 126.96.36.199 and Secondary DNS to 188.8.131.52 and select OK.
- Head back to the Network and select Connection Status instead of Settings.
- Here, select Test Internet Connection to see if the internet works fine.
9. Update the System Software of the PlayStation
The outdated software can often have bugs, which may cause trouble signing into the PlayStation Network. Check for system software software updates and install them to fix this issue.
- Head to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Here, select Update System Software.
- Now, choose the Update Using Internet option.
- If any update is available, select Update Now to install them.
10. Enable Automatic Login
Another troubleshooting step that worked out for many people is enabling automatic login. This allows PlayStation to sign in to PSN during the startup automatically, and you shouldn’t face this issue.
- From the Home Screen, select Settings.
- Head to Users and Accounts from Settings.
- Under the Login Settings tab, turn on the Log in to PS5 Automatically toggle.
11. Rebuild PS5/PS4 Database
Corrupted data on the PlayStation can also cause this issue. You can try rebuilding the database of your PlayStation to see if that fixes the issue. You can do it by following the steps given below-
- First, shut down your PlayStation. Wait for it to turn off completely.
- Now, connect your controller to the console with the cable.
- Hold down the Power Button on the console until you hear two beeps. After the second beep, release the button to boot PS in safe mode.

12. Use Different Account

14. Factory Reset PlayStation
