Fix Your device is having trouble recognizing you error in Windows 11

If your device is having trouble recognizing you on a Windows 11/10 PC, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.

1. Roll back your fingerprint driver
2. Update your fingerprint driver
3. Pick a different driver
4. Make sure Windows Biometric Service is configured correctly
5. Remove the existing fingerprint and add a new one
6. Run Hardware and Device troubleshooter

1] Roll back your fingerprint driver

On some occasions, our computer tends to install a buggy update due to which it shows some peculiarity. In that case, we need to roll back the driver to set to the version that had no such issues. The same can be and should be done for the error message in question. We will roll back the fingerprint driver installed on your computer. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.

1. Open the Device Manager by searching it out of the Start Menu.
2. Now, expand the Biometric device.
3. Right-click on the fingerprint driver and click on Properties.
4. Go to the Drivers tab and then click on Roll Back Driver.

In case the option is greyed out, this means that your driver has not been updated; therefore, go to the next solution to update it.

2] Update your fingerprint driver

If the Roll Back Driver button is greyed out, your device has not been updated. So, we need to update it to get it working. To do the same, use any of the methods prescribed below.

Finally, check if the issue is resolved.

3] Pick a different driver

If there is no update available, you need to pick a different driver if that’s available. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.

1. Open the Device Manager.
2. Expand the Biometric device, right-click on your device, and select Update driver.
3. Go to Browse my computer for driver > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
4. Select an older driver and click on Next.

4] Make sure Windows Biometric Service is configured correctly

Next up, we need to check if the Windows Biometric Service is configured such that it starts automatically when your computer boots up. If the service is not running or not set as mentioned earlier, the fingerprint sensor will fail to recognize the input. So, follow the steps mentioned below to configure Windows Biometric Service.

1. Open the Services app from the Start Menu.
2. Look for Windows Biometric Service.
3. Right-click on the service and select Properties.
4. Make sure it’s running and the Startup type is set to Automatic.
5. Finally, click on Apply > OK.

Now, check if the issue is resolved.

5] Remove the existing fingerprint and add a new one

Sometimes, the registered fingerprint files get corrupted due to which it is unable to identify yours. That is why, we need to remove the existing one and then add a new one. To do the same, open Settings, go to Accounts > Sign-in Options > Fingerprint recognition, and then click on Remove associated with Remove this sign-in options. This will remove your fingerprint. Once it has been removed, set it up again. Finally, check if the issue persists.

6] Run Hardware and Device troubleshooter

Hardware and Device troubleshooter is a built-in utility that can scan what’s wrong with your fingerprint sensor and resolve the issue.

How do I reset the Fingerprint sensor on Windows 11?

To reset the fingerprint sensor, you need to remove and re-add your fingerprint. To do the same, open Settings and click on Accounts > Sign-in options > Fingerprint recognition > Remove. Finally, add the fingerprint and then check if the issue is resolved.
