Blooks are characters that represent players. There are many animals available as characters, such as pigs, cows, and chickens.

As students play, they can collect points and coins that they can use to purchase these “Blook” packs. It’s a fun way to express themselves and motivate them to answer correctly.

Students can even create customized Blooks with the points they earn!

Question sets provide the basis for games on Blooket. There are many ready-made question sets in the Discover database, so you don’t have to create your own.

These ready-made question sets span many topics, so regardless of what you are teaching and the age group you are teaching, there is a good chance you will find a question set that is suitable.

There are over 20 million question sets already! There’s no shortage of sets on any topic.

Different categories of ready-made question sets include trivia, world languages, history, math, and many others. In addition, many of the sets have been verified by teachers, so you know they are good enough to use in a classroom.

Of course, you can also create your own question sets if you wish. You can do that with the Create button, after which you can always access your created sets in the My Sets tab.

Additionally, if you created question sets on other platforms, you are free to import them. Blooket offers several tools for this purpose.

Once you select a question set, either one you created yourself or one you selected from the library, you can host the game. First, though, you must choose a game mode.

There are many game modes available, and they can be applied to any set. Most game modes are played with at least two or three people, except for the solo game modes.

The game modes are actually just games that are applied to your sets. Some of the game modes include:

• Pirate’s Voyage
• Battle Royale
• Tower of Doom
• Monster Brawl
• Crazy Kingdom

There are almost 20 game modes in total, and more will likely be added with time.

Some game modes are only available for live hosting, while others are only available for homework assignments. Others can be used for any type of activity.

You can host live games in the classroom. Again, students don’t need an account.

Instead, you can provide a code that they can use to log on and play the game.

During live games, you can divide students into teams, depending on the game mode. If you don’t want to form teams, every student can play for themselves if you choose the Solo option when setting up the game, as shown in the screenshot above.

You can also create timers for games and decide whether to allow students to create Blooket accounts when playing a game with a game invite code.

In addition to live games, you can assign games as homework. Simply click on the “Assign HW” option when viewing a question set.

Once you do that, you will be able to select a game mode. Remember, not all game modes will be available for homework assignments, as some of them are only an option for live games.

Once you assign a question set as homework, students will be able to play the game by joining a link or scanning a QR code. Both will be provided to you so you can share them with your students.

After selecting a game mode, you will be able to choose a due date, down to the day, time, and minute, for the homework assignment. Students should log onto the game using the link and finish the assignment by that time.

If students create an account, they can use Blooket for free and play games solo on their own time, even if you did not assign them any homework.

It’s a great way for students to learn while enjoying themselves. You can encourage your students to sign up and play these games instead of playing video games, for example.

Students can simply find a question set from the Discover library and then click on the Solo option. After selecting a game mode, they can proceed to play the game by themselves, and their progress will be saved automatically.

In the screenshot above, you can see an example of what a solo game looks like on Blooket.

During specific “Blooket seasons,” Blooket holds events in which time-limited game modes, Blooks, giveaways, and tournaments may be released.

These events are meant to encourage engagement on the platform and give people an opportunity to enjoy games and competitions that are not usually available.

Blooket is available for free. The free plan is very generous compared to a lot of competitors, as it allows you to play games with up to 60 players at once.

Sixty players should be enough for your entire class. In addition, on the free plan, you can access question sets from the Discover library or create your own question set – you are not limited to one or the other.

Furthermore, even on the free plan, you can access most game modes.

The premium plan is called Plus, and it costs $59.88 a year. That comes out to $4.99/month.

There is a monthly payment option as well. If you pay monthly, it will be $9.99, but you can sign up for just one or two months and then cancel as you wish.

In addition to everything that the free plan offers, it increases the player limit to 300 players. Most teachers will not need that many players, but there are still benefits of subscribing to Plus.

It provides you with exclusive game modes and tools such as the ability to copy and duplicate sets and then edit them to get two similar versions of a set. You can also quickly import questions from another set to your own, allowing you to mix sets together as you please.

It also lets you access a verified curriculum for your learning plan, and best of all, it gives you access to in-depth game reports so you can analyze your students’ performance and knowledge.

There are a few other differences. For example, the Starter plan only allows you to assign homework with deadlines up to two weeks out, while the Plus plan lets you assign homework with deadlines up to 365 days in advance.

Furthermore, a pretty cool feature of the Plus plan is the ability to add audio questions to your sets.

I would say that Plus isn’t really necessary, though. It does give you useful perks, but you probably won’t feel limited on the free plan, either.

Blooket is one of my favorite gamified learning platforms.

It is easy to use alongside other gamified learning platforms because it offers pretty much everything you will need for free.

Many other competitors offer very limited value on the free plans, such as only a handful of games. That is just one of the reasons I like Blooket so much. The variety of game modes and the huge library of question sets are also amazing.
