Cancellation, Options For The Future & Everything We Know

Miracle Workers has officially been canceled, but that doesn’t mean that season 5 is entirely impossible. The show is based on the stories of Simon Rich, who also served as showrunner for the TBS series. Rich based the first season on his novel What in God’s Name and the second season was based on his story Revolution. What made the series so unique was that it was an anthology series with the same cast taking on new characters each season, while also changing the location and genre. Season 1 was a religious satire, season 2 took place in the Dark Ages, season 3 was in the Wild West, and season 4 of Miracle Workers is set in a post-apocalyptic hellscape.

However, when it comes to Miracle Workers season 5, it seems like the end of the road for the show means it’ll probably never happen — though not because of ratings or a lack of interest. While remaining popular with a great cast including Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe and the iconic Steve Buscemi, the real demise of Miracle Workers was likely simply tied to its network. While TBS and TNT have a long and storied history, new parent company Warner Bros-Discvoery seems intent on tearing things down and reorganizing its properties, and this includes eliminating all scripted television from the cable channels, including Miracle Workers.

Miracle Workers Season 5 Recent News

Miracle Workers has officially been canceled by TBS and that news essentially means that season 5 is a non-starter. The show enjoyed a successful four-season run on the comedy-based network, and it is especially respectable considering the show’s absurdist content and anthology style. The cancelation means that TBS no longer carries any original live-action series, and only Seth MacFarlane’s animated comedy American Dad remains as part of the network’s original programming slate.

Miracle Workers Is Canceled

Just a few months after the conclusion of season 4, Miracle Workers has been canceled by TBS and won’t receive a season 5. Though the news is disheartening, it isn’t particularly surprising considering how few original TBS series are left. The future of Miracle Workers was in doubt even as season 4 drew to a close, and its cancelation was always a possibility.

Could Miracle Workers Season 5 Happen On A New Network?

Though the cancelation is a sad development, Miracle Workers could always be picked up by another network or streaming service. Unlike in the past, modern shows get canceled by their original home all the time, only to be scooped up by a competitor and given a second chance. The series The Killing was canceled by AMC only to be successfully revived by Netflix for an extended run, and Miracle Workers is just the sort of irreverent comedy that certain streaming services specialize in.

Season 4 Of Miracle Workers Wrapped Up The Story

Unlike other canceled shows, Miracle Workers went out on a strong note because season 4 wrapped up its story. Being an anthology series, each season of Miracle Workers was its own self-contained story, and viewers got a satisfying conclusion when season 4 ended. This style of storytelling could make the show a prime target for revival on another network, or the conclusive nature of its ending could mean that Miracle Workers rides off into the sunset forever.
