However, paying the small fee is a great idea to give you access to the full range of features.

The free option lets you store as many passwords as you want but you’re limited to one user.

You can access autosave and autofill, the password auditing, and even share a password.

However, the rest of the features are reserved for those that are willing to pay the small subscription fee. 

Individual

The cost of the individual plan varies depending on how long you commit for.

For example, one year will cost you just $17.90, while five years is just $89.50. That’s impressive. 

The individual account grants you one user license, allowing you to use the password manager and sync it across multiple devices. 

Family

The family option will cost you $35.80 for a year. However, it does allow up to five users.

That’s five individual password managers, one for each member of your family. 

Business

The business option costs $34.95 per year per user.

This is higher than the personal accounts but it creates a central database that can be accessed by all users.

You can even control which passwords users can access.

All three account levels give you access to all the features Roboform has to offer.

Advantages

There are several excellent reasons to choose Roboform.

Encryption Level

As mentioned, Roboform doesn’t use the very latest encryption, only NordPass uses this.

But, it does utilize military-grade 256-bit AES.

At present this level of encryption is unhackable.

In short, your passwords will be encrypted and uploaded to the cloud, only you will be able to access them. 

You will need to create a master password which allows you to access the password manager.

This is the only one you’ll need to remember but it needs to be a strong password. 

If you forget your password you can restore it.

However, to do this you’ll need to know your email address and have biometrics enabled. 

Should you not have done this, it will be impossible to restore your password.

That means you must reset it and that wipes your database of passwords!

Dual-Factor Authentication

Roboform offers dual-factor authentication and insists you use it.

In a nutshell, this means your password is not enough. After entering it you’ll be sent an authentication code directly to your mobile. 

This will have to be filled in on the screen within a given period.

As the code is sent to your personal device it is difficult for anyone else to intercept. 

Alongside dual-factor authentication, Roboform also offers biometric access.

You can choose to use this security feature. If activated, it allows you to login with your fingerprint or facial recognition.

Roboform, like many password managers, offers an autofill option. You can turn it off or on.

However, it’s worth turning it on. I found using it to be smooth and fast, making it a beneficial option.

Password Generator

There is no limit on how many passwords you can store in the Roboform vault.

The vault is contained inside the Roboform servers.

You can access it, with your password, via a desktop, mobile, and browser extensions.

In short, you can get to your passwords from anywhere as long as you have the master password and internet access. 

Of course, you can store any password you’ve created in the vault.

Simply input the app, username, and your password by clicking on the plus sign at the bottom right of the screen.

You can also use Roboform to generate passwords. It’s a good idea if you want strong passwords that are difficult to hack.

The password generator defaults to 16-character long phrases which use numbers, symbols, and upper and lowercase letters. 

If you prefer, you can customize the password option and set your own desired length.

It can create passwords up to 512 characters long! You can also set which type of characters should be included. 

Storage Capabilities

The Roboform vault doesn’t just let you store as many passwords as you like. It also allows you to organize them.

You can create as many folders and subfolders as you wish to make accessing passwords and other information easy. 

That’s the real beauty of this app. Adding the passwords to the main vault is a good option.

The folders are perfect for the additional information you want to store in the vault. 

Roboform lets you store copies of your ID documents, credit cards, and other personal files.

It doesn’t let you store photos yet. 

Password Sharing

No matter how secure your passwords are there will be times when you need to share them with a trusted friend or loved one.

Roboform allows you to share a password with someone. That someone must be a registered Roboform user.

You can then select the share option next to one or more passwords and transmit them instantly to your selected contact. 

The passwords will appear in your friend’s Roboform message center, they’ll need to login to get them.

Auditor

The Roboform auditor is an excellent addition to this tool. It will look at all the passwords in your file and tell you how strong each password is. 

To assess this it uses an open-source algorithm, referred to as ‘zxcvbn’.

It is generally considered better at defining password strength than most other tools. 

You can then see which passwords are weak and need to be changed. 

Roboform also looks at whether any passwords have been reused and advises you of this. 

In addition, it regularly checks the Have I Been Pwned database. This contains millions of passwords which have been leaked in data breaches.

If any of your passwords are on the list it will instantly alert you, allowing you to change it and take any other steps you deem necessary.  

An additional feature worth mentioning is that, once you’ve logged into the app and found the password you can click on the three horizontal dots to the right of the password.

This will take you directly to the website and log you in!

Considering the low price of this product the level of customer support offered is nothing short of impressive. 

The team can be contacted for help via the help center on their website. You’ll find a variety of questions and answers.

These are also available, along with additional assistance in the Roboform manual. 

However, the best way to get a fast and effective response is by using the live chat feature.

You’ll get a virtually instant response and the team is very knowledgeable. 

It’s also possible to contact them via telephone or even send an email. Few other password managers offer such an extensive collection of contact options. 

Disadvantages

There are a few disadvantages to using this budget option. 

No Dark Web Scanning

Roboform checks the database for passwords relating to data breaches.

This is a good starting point. Unfortunately, it doesn’t yet scan the dark web. 

That means there are some data breaches it won’t pick up on and some it will spot later than it could.

It potentially increases the risk of your data being stolen and used before you’re aware of it. 

Poor Desktop Interface

The desktop interface works extremely well.

You’ll find it easy to access all the features, find your passwords,and even link directly to the relevant websites. 

However, it’s a little disappointing that the mobile app and even the website look professional and well-finished.

In contrast, the desktop app isn’t well polished. 

The Master Password

Roboform insists that the master password be at least eight characters long and half of them must be letters or symbols.

This sounds good but it leaves scope to choose an easily hackable password. 

A 12-character password would be better and you should consider choosing one that is at least this long.

Make sure you include numbers, lower and uppercase letters, and symbols, without relying on a word or phrase that can be easily connected to you.

Reading this Roboform review should make it obvious that I was impressed when using this app.

Yes, there are a few areas where it could be improved.

However, on the whole, it offers a high level of security, all the core features you need to keep your passwords safe, and it’s very easy to use.
